Pakistan Mango Festival Enchants Ankara with the King of Fruits
The Pakistan Mango Festival in Ankara showcased over 100 mango varieties, strengthening cultural and trade ties between Pakistan and Türkiye.
The Embassy of Pakistan transformed Ankara into a tropical paradise this week with its annual Pakistan Mango Festival, treating dignitaries and guests to the country's world-renowned "king of fruits." The event highlighted Pakistan's agricultural excellence while strengthening cultural and economic bonds with Türkiye.
Ambassador Dr. Yousaf Junaid personally introduced attendees to over 100 premium mango varieties, including the celebrated Chaunsa, Sindhri, and Anwar Ratol. "Our mangoes represent centuries of farming heritage," he remarked, noting Pakistan's position as the world's fourth-largest mango producer. "Each variety tells a story of our land's generosity."
Ankara Governor H.E. Vasip Şahin praised the initiative as "a delicious bridge between brotherly nations," sampling mango-infused dishes from traditional chicken curry to innovative desserts. The festival's culinary offerings ranged from fresh mango tastings to creative presentations like mango samosas and saffron-infused mango lassi.
Trade potential took center stage, with Ambassador Junaid announcing plans to triple mango exports to Türkiye within three years. Representatives from major Turkish retailers and hospitality groups explored import opportunities during B2B sessions.
The guest list featured prominent figures including MP Burhan Kaya Türk and DG SESRIC Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk, who enjoyed cultural performances alongside the gastronomic experience. Food critics particularly praised the "perfect balance of sweetness and acidity" in Pakistani mangoes compared to other varieties.
Organizers emphasized the festival's dual role in promoting agricultural trade while celebrating shared cultural values between Pakistan and Türkiye. Plans are already underway for next year's expanded edition, potentially featuring mango-growing competitions and chef challenges.
